The chart offered nothing to be happy about, but as a Doctor, Sarah tried to find some shred of hope in the prognosis. Her patient, however, read her consideration as indecision, making her job significantly easier.“Give it to me straight, Doc. I don’t need kind words.”
Sarah raised an eyebrow. From the chart, he would die, in excruciating pain, within six months.
“I thought they taught you how to read a chart in medical school,” he snapped.
“You’ll die, soon, and painfully,” she said.
The surprise on his face gave her an instant of vindication before fading into regret.
