This word would only be better if it was in May.

According to legend, every thousand years, a God appears in the sky and heralds the dawn of a new age. But we weren’t superstitious. We had science, what use had we for legends?

Most people didn’t think anything would happen.

Until It – He? She? – appeared in the sky; a hazy white face in the heavens, cloaked by starlight. Clerics gloated, called it the hour of judgment. When nothing happened, they fell into an awkward silence. Everyone waited for the other shoe to drop.

But our leaders wouldn’t wait. “There’s only one thing to do,” they said. “Let’s shoot it down.”

No, it doesn't make much sense, unless you know the song "Futz Said Julie". And no, it doesn't make sense that someone at some point wouldn't have said "Dudes, chill, it's a comet." But no, I'm not apologizing.
